Exercises 1 These are basic and simple exercises and will help you get control of your fingers and give you enough skill to play very simply tunes, such as the "Skye Boat Song". Once you have got the basic idea, some people may wish to play along with a mentronome. Although it is not an absolute rule, it is good to try and be aware of closing your gracenotes on the beat. Technique is NOT the ability to repeat something very quickly, but the control over your fingers and understanding to decide when things happen and why..
